Austrian Photography XIV:
Iris Klein: She, Her & Me
For our fourteenth exhibition of Austrian photography, we turn to the unique fine art work of the photographer Iris Klein who has lived in New York City since 1995. Of her own work, the artist says: “My photographs are the product of a multifold process. I start with a concept. Next, this idea is staged and manifested in three dimensions. This is followed by the technical production, where the image is transformed and abstracted through analog or digital means to achieve the desired result. In the staging part of the work I often use a doll as a substitute for a human subject. But regardless whether human or inanimate, the figure always acts as a placeholder, a vehicle for projections about roles, observations, and fantasies.”
